School: Back to school shopping ripoffs?

Victoria Back to School by myvirtuallady

Stress-free Back to School Shopping Tips

The countdown has begun for many parents and students waiting for the reopening of school doors. Now that the lazy days of summer are winding down, its time to get focused and get in gear for school.

No need to stress yourself out with all you have to do. Take one day at a time. One tip that I go by is to get the main school supplies like paper, pens, notebooks and folders and save the major supplies after the first week of school when you have the specifics of what your child needs. This is also a great time for adults to stock up on office supplies because the sales are so good.

Another piece of advice I have is to avoid the stores on the weekend. Its not worth the aggevation unless you absolutely can't make it to the store during the week. I went to Target around 6pm on a Thursday and the school supply section was virtually a ghost town with plenty of supplies still on hand.

You don't have to rush to get a new wardrobe for your child either unless they outgrew all their clothes over the summer. Most kids who don't wear uniforms can get away with wearing summer clothes for a couple of weeks until it gets colder. Make sure to check with your child's student handbook to follow the rules regarding dress code.

For discount sports apparel and jeans, try Steve and Barry's, a discount retailer that sells men's, women's and children's wear. Most items doe not go over $12.88 including footwear. This is the store that features the popular Star One line by NBA star Stephon Maurbury.

Other deals for young children's clothes can be found at Old Navy and Children's Place. Both offer two/for deals such as two pairs of jeans for $24 or two sweatshirts for $24. They also routinely give out coupons that give you deeper discounts the more you spend which could come in handy especially when purchasing for multiple children.

Don't overlook the warehouses for back to school deals. At BJ's in Linden, I found good quality rolling book bags for under $20. They also had big deals on mechanical pencils and other necessities for all students. I find it most beneficial to get snacks and drinks from Costco or BJ's because they last a long time especially if you only have one child.

Another place that you may find good deals is at your local grocery store. While you are their picking up your food, they have great displays at the front of the store with back to school deals like ten notebooks for $1.

Well I hope you don't wait until the Saturday before Labor Day to start your shopping because if you do, I can't help you. If you do wait for then, my advice is to relax and get what you can get. The stores will still have supplies on hand, you may just have to pay more for them.

Buy what you need for the first day of school but don’t buy too much for the rest of the year. Some items, such as pencils and pens, might be useful to stock up on if there is a great sale. But since many stores overstock on items, you may actually be able to find some bargains by scanning for sales after the back to school rush is over.

Top Reasons The Middle Class Is Disappearing

Middle Class Rut by rick

I beleive the united states has a very bad problem with the way they manage money. I just recently heard about a story that a guy paid a couple million to get a special license plate for his car, and this pissed me off really bad. Millions are being basically burned away by these people. When i believe instead of spending a cool million on a damn license plate, you could spread that around the society of the middle-class and bring the burden of debt off us.

Why can't this be done? People are making Millions on making movies, but docters and nurses are only making 100,000 or less a year? What the F*CK ya know. There are alot of greedy people out there who don't care to blow 10,000 on a dinner, or a massage. But there is an entire society known as the middle-class, whois suffering from mass debts. Can't this country do something about it?

Gazelle Sport 1939 by andrekoopmans

New York City is full of bars. Unfortunately, there are so many that people only have time to frequent the bars that are close to them or the ones that they were recommended to attend. But nobody should be forced to attend a sports bar that’s not worth the time or money, because it is much more pleasant to get settled in on one place where you can make good friends and have good sports conversation, as well. Hence, I have listed the top 3 sports bars in  New York City. There are three things that all of these places have in common. One, they all have decent size crowds for all the big sporting events, and they are rarely overcrowded. Two, none of these sports bars are male-only establishments. They have tons of women, and encourage their attendance. And three, all of these sports bars have great food for great value. So read on, attend these places, and maybe you and I can talk baseball and the N.L. wild card over a plate of wings.

3. Town Tavern (towntavernnyc.com) has a beautiful setup in downtown Manhattan. Located in Greenwich Village, it is in the center of a diversity hub. All kinds of different characters go into Town Tavern, and rarely will you ever see the same two people. It has an open atmosphere and people love watching the games in big crowds. The flat screen TV’s are great for watching sports games in the high-definition format, and as people gather around the bar, their big size makes them a lot easier to see. The food is wonderful. They have a particularly nice “Bistro” burger that will make your mouth water at the sound of it after you’ve had it for the first time. They have $2-Twisted Iced Teas and $.10 wings on Saturdays, so if you are hard-pressed for cash you can come and get full and drunk with only a couple of bucks. They love their Yankees at Town Tavern, so Mets’ fans take heed!

2. Not only does Croxley Ales (Croxley.com) have a great inside bar in the heart of the East Village, but it also has an outdoor Garden. People love to take in the garden and have good conversation, but I’ll admit, the bulk of the sports conversation occurs in the bar. Because in the bar is where you will see giant servings of wings, nachos, and fish & chip platters being consumed by rambunctious, loud and enthusiastic sports fanatics. There is a huge gathering on Monday nights, Saturdays, and all day Sunday, and the focus is completely on football. On all of those nights, plus Wednesday, there are $.10 wings and $4 beers. So people get nice and liquored up to talk Monday night football and College game day, and they have a real nice time. Often you will see large groups of people come into Croxley Ales more than groups of one or two. This often results in people staying a little closer to who they know, but it guarantees that you will get to hear a bunch of loud and rivalrous conversation between friends and foes. Every time I go here and there is a game on the screen, somebody starts a rowdy conversation. Hey, it wouldn’t be a sports bar though if there wasn’t one.

1. They call it Blondies (blondiessports.com). A rather feminine name for a place oozing with testosterone, but maybe they labeled this upscale sports bar with a women’s name to bring in the high-quality female regulars that they do. The women aren’t just good looking though, but they can talk sports with any guy who walks through the door. Overall though, the entire Blondies’ crowd is excitable and sports knowledgeable. Every one gets excited about the big events, and they all enjoy a nice close game. The atmosphere is fun and exciting, and as soon as you walk in the door you know that you are going to have a good time. The crowd loves their New York sports, too. So if you’re a Jets, Giants, Knicks or Rangers’ fan, you will be well received. If you like an out of town team, you’re welcome, too. But beware! Out of town fans get a lot of trash talk sent their way, so be ready to defend your team to the utmost potential. The Food at Blondie’s is amazing! They have an assortment of different flavored wings, and they have an “extremely hot” flavor that the devil himself couldn’t finish. They have all you can eat wings on Monday, and they have some of the best burgers and fries on the West side of Manhattan. The staff here is incredibly friendly, and they treat you more like a friend than a customer. So head over to Blondie’s, have a drink, eat some wings, watch some ball, just have a plain-old good time, and if your team wins, consider it a bonus.

Terengganu Sports Complex at dawn by neeZhom

It is clear to see that violence and controversy has continued to rise in sporting events as the years roll by us. In baseball, basketball, hockey, and especially football, these occurrences have happened more frequently than in the past seasons. The question is why? Why do these violent acts continue to happen with the fans in the seats and with the players on the field? Several factors are to be considered as influencing these acts in professional sports.

Let’s face it; sports are life for many people living on this earth. I know from my experience that when I am watching a game on television or in the stands, the intensity of the action on the field encompasses my body. The thing that many people do not think about is the consequences for their actions and how to hold their emotions inside. With an increase in rivalry meetings between teams, there comes such a strong intensity that fans let their emotions run wild and commit acts that otherwise would not be committed. Sometimes, fans even run onto the field even in the nude and not only distract the players on the field and interrupt the fun of the game, but they end up in jail for the night or longer. Also, with many vendors selling alcoholic beverages in the stadiums or arenas, fans’ views can become alternated and they really do not know what they ended up doing. In one instance, a father and son charged onto a baseball field and beat up on a defenseless umpire who made a “bad” call on a previous play. The consequences of their actions ended up not only putting them in jail together, but canceling the rest of the game making the players and the fans suffer.

A second reason for such violence at sporting events is an ongoing case that continues to appear in the world of sports. The reason is steroids. Steroids are becoming a serious issue in all of the major sports and even in the Olympics. By using these performance enhancing drugs, players not only endanger the lives of themselves and their family, but they give players that extra power allowing them to hit the opponent harder and do things that they otherwise would not do. Such instances often end in season or career-ending injuries for the innocent player receiving the hit. Such as in the case with alcohol in the stands, the steroid user does not even think about the consequences of the hit or abuse he puts onto the opponent. Using steroids often causes unwanted violence and sometimes even hurts their own team and career, along with handing a heavy-weighted fine to the abuser. Not to mention that after officials find out about the steroid use, it jeopardizes the career of the user, which in turn causes unwanted violent acts from fans onto the player.

The final and possibly the most important factor that goes into violence at sporting events is that sports are taken to serious in society. Sports are enjoyable to watch and can be very relaxing to watch after a stress-filled day. One play, however, can cause turmoil between friends, players, and the fans in the stands. An unwanted interaction occurs because of the human need for competition. From personal experience, I know that when two fans are at differences between two competing teams, violence, though not as serious, often occurs. Violence does not have to be limited to physical abuse, but it can also be considered as yelling and verbal abuse, sometimes ending in a broken friendship. Also, society encourages violence in sports. Often times, people cheer at the result of an opposing player being hurt on the playing field by a player from their team of choice.

It is clear that something must be done to stop the violence in sports. If sports were taken as they were meant to be, than violent acts would be all-around more enjoyable for the fans and the players. Now that the question of why has been answered, the question still remaining is how long, if ever, before violent acts are non-existent in the world of sports? As a huge sports fan myself, I believe that the process will be ongoing for many years to come. I guess sports are that much influenced by society that the serious issue is receiving little thought in the minds of the respected commissioners of each league. Until a more serious consequence is levied upon the abusers, violence in sporting events will continue to meet the needs of society for years to come.
